Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. The aligners are made of medical-grade BPA-free plastic. You wear each set of aligners for two weeks before changing them to the next set in your treatment plan.

What dental imperfections improve with Invisalign?

Dr. Bercovitch uses Invisalign to correct a variety of dental imperfections, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crooked or uneven teeth

Some orthodontic issues require traditional treatment. If you need orthodontic treatment, call Dr. Bercovitch to find out if Invisalign is right for you.

What should I expect during Invisalign treatment?

You begin with a consultation and exam, during which Dr. Bercovitch determines if Invisalign is the best option to enhance your smile. He scans your teeth and uses special software to plan and map the movement of your teeth.

This plan is used to design and create your aligner trays. When your trays are ready, Dr. Bercovitch gives you the first pair. While you can take them out to eat and clean your teeth, you should wear them for at least 22 hours a day for effective treatment.

After two weeks, you come back to the office, so Dr. Bercovitch can check your progress and give you the next set of aligners. Once he’s satisfied that your teeth are responding as expected, he might give you three or four sets of aligners at a time. You can change them every two weeks at home and have check-ups every 6-8 weeks.

Invisalign treatment can take between 6-18 months, with most patients wearing aligners for around 12 months.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

One of the most popular benefits of Invisalign treatment is that the aligners are nearly invisible while you’re wearing them. You don’t need to put up with a mouth full of metal brackets and wires while you correct your smile. The aligners are smooth, so they won’t irritate your cheeks or gums.

You can also remove your aligners for a short time every day. This means you don’t have to give up any of your favorite foods during your treatment, and you can easily brush and floss your teeth.
